European Sellers Face Restrictions: Urgent Action Required for Import Entry Numbers (IEN)

Starting from February 27, a large number of European sellers received notices that their stores’ sales rights have been restricted and they need to enter the import entry number IEN to lift the restriction. Since a considerable number of European sellers choose logistics service providers with double-clearance and tax-guaranteed shipping services and do not have an IEN number, many sellers do not know what to do. Many sellers believe that if all future shipments require an IEN, the tax-included logistics channel may become a thing of the past. Sellers who use self-taxed logistics channels have their own IEN. After receiving the prompt, the seller only needs to upload the IEN code.

However, due to other external reasons, some sellers may use tax-included channels for some of their goods and do not have their own IEN numbers. These sellers are more anxious when encountering these problems. After communicating with the backend, it can still be solved relatively simply, and the account will not be closed directly. But whether these problems can be solved in such a simple way in the future is unknown. In particular, Amazon pointed out that if similar things happen in the future, the seller may need to explain and trace the seller’s past historical transactions.

IEN is the number assigned by the British Revenue and Customs Administration to goods imported into the UK. The full name is Import Entry Number. This code will appear after import customs clearance and tax payment. After this sudden notice came out, it triggered feedback from many sellers. There are still many sellers with dual-clearance tax guarantees on the market. If these sellers are frequently checked in the future, double-clearance tax-guarantees may have to disappear from the stage of history. After all, most sellers are not willing to have their transactions restricted due to issues such as lack of serial numbers. Now that the backend suddenly restricts sellers’ sales rights, it is actually a very serious reminder. Therefore, at present, the European logistics tax issue is urgent and needs to be resolved as soon as possible. Double clearing tax packages are very common in the e-commerce field in recent years. At present, there is less and less space left for double clearing tax packages. To some extent, each seller needs his own coding.

It is obvious that Amazon’s compliance efforts at various points in Europe will be further strengthened. It has become increasingly difficult or even impossible for sellers to save costs on tax and other procedures in Europe. The market barriers are getting higher and higher, and each seller should return its focus to product and brand upgrades, focusing on studying various products and starting from the perspective of consumers. As for policies such as double clearing tax packages, it is very likely that they will be canceled in the future. The market will become more standardized and streamlined, and sellers’ focus will gradually shift to developing and improving products.
