A LARGE NUMBER OF AMAZON WAREHOUSES WILL BE AFFECTED

A large number of Amazon warehouses will be affected

Following the destruction of southern California by a blizzard, on February 28 local time in the United States, New York State was also hit by the strongest blizzard of the season. Affected by this wave of winter storms, a large-scale logistics and transportation network in the United States collapsed, and Amazon warehouse delivery also experienced large-scale delays.

Amazon warehouse delivery delays

The blizzard sweeping across the United States has once again exacerbated Amazon’s warehouse logistics delays. Recently, according to an emergency notice, due to the impact of the winter storm in the United States, all roads to Northern Canada are currently closed. In the next few days, the delivery of Amazon’s warehouses in North Canada will be delayed to varying degrees, and the delivery time cannot be predicted. The affected warehouses mainly include: SMF1, SMF3, SMF6, SMF7, SJC7, SJC8, etc. There is also feedback from some overseas warehouses, and the recent appointments for warehouses will also be delayed. Last week, the eBay US station also announced that it will urgently start protective measures for sellers affected by the winter storm to reduce the impact of logistics delays on seller accounts under severe weather. In the next few weeks, the terminal delivery delay caused by bad weather will become the biggest obstacle for cross-border sellers to burst their orders. So sellers should pay more attention to these.

Some Amazon warehouses may close permanently

In addition, some of Amazon’s warehouses will be permanently closed. Recently, some sellers reported that they received a notice that the Amazon XLX2 warehouse will be permanently closed when they made an appointment for delivery. After receiving the news, although there is a lot of discussions, Amazon has not responded to the warehouse issue so far. There is also news that: on February 23, the YYZ2 warehouse has begun to stop releasing orders, and all channels YYZ2 lines will be suspended from now on. Amazon is planning to permanently close its YYZ2 warehouse in Canada. According to recent data, Amazon has canceled, closed, or delayed 99 facilities, affecting nearly 32.3 million square feet of space in 30 states. According to MWPVL data, as of February 24, the following Amazon facilities in the United States have been canceled, closed, or delayed as shown below.

At the previous Amazon financial report meeting, Amazon President and CEO Andy Jassy said that the company’s top priority is to reduce the service of the operating network, followed by increasing delivery speed and enriching categories. He also noted, “I’m pleased with the progress we made in the fourth quarter. However, the cost-cutting efforts will continue into 2023.” Wulfraat noted that Amazon’s cost-cutting actions could put some of those open facilities at risk of closing. Despite the closures and cancellations of many facilities, Amazon still plans to open 231 facilities, half of which will be delivery stations. This also reminds all sellers to always pay attention to the distribution status of the backstage of the goods and the operation status of the warehouse, and try to avoid those distribution facilities that are limited in operation and will be closed to avoid losses.
